Dia de los Reyes

Everybody got their boxes of hay/grass ready? Tonight before bed make sure you put them under your bed so the Three Kings will leave you a present. The camels will eat up all the hay/grass and be very happy. This is a Puerto Rican tradition that the kids love almost as much as Christmas. Well why not, they get a gift eh? My kids have their boxes all decorated and can't wait. What worked out real well this year is having the guinea pigs here for winter break...I have two lil munch buggers to eat up all that Timothy Hay.

Also wanted to add that the 6th is refered to as..the 12th Night in english, or in France it is called the Epiphany and celebrated with the (12th night cake) wich they call the Galette des Rois (cake of the kings) ..there is a little ceramic or gold or resin figurine (a kind or jesus etc) or way back in the day it was originally a BEAN hidden in the cake and the person who gets it is the king or queen of the night. Chris grew up celebrating this every year and since we have been together we get one of those cakes from the bakery to continue the tradition. Being in a french province it's actually very easy to find here.

I love hearing about different traditions in different cultures...and also see how some are just a slight variation to others in other countries.
